3rd Annual Monster Dash 5K & 1mile Family Fun Run: Saturday, October 27, 2018
On Saturday, October 27th, the Stamford Family YMCA hosted its 3rd Annual Monster Dash 5K & 1 Mile Family Fun Run. Mother Nature was not on our side that stormy morning. We had to make the call early in the morning to cancel the outdoor run due to rain and high winds. For those who still came out in the rainy weather, we had a fun time indoors, running on the treadmills, the indoor track and some even participated in a boot camp. Children had their faces painted and everyone enjoyed a bagel breakfast sponsored by Grade A Shoprite.
Sponsors of the race included: GE Financial Services, Harman, Legg Mason, Pete Weiland & Shannon Duffy, Mike & Candace Jemiolo, Bonnie Verses, Sanjeev & Padmini Gupta, Moffly Media and many community sponsors. The event was chaired by Stamford YMCA Board member Peter Weiland. Proceeds from the race provide financial assistance to low-income families so they have an opportunity for their children to thrive. The Y’s afterschool program, Lead Academy (Leadership, Enrichment, Acceptance, and Development) offers children academic enrichment, homework support, swim lessons, nutrition, fitness classes and mentoring.
Since 1868, the Stamford Family YMCA has made its mission to provide the community with a safe and nurturing environment for children and teens to reach their potential; adults to create healthier lifestyles; and neighbors to support each other and give back to the community. The Y strives to not turn people away for inability to pay and operates thanks to the generosity of members, donors and corporate sponsors.
