Welcome Scott Williford – Aquatics Director

Hello, my name is Scott Williford!!

I am excited to be a part of the Stamford YMCA’s leadership team.  My goal is to provide a safe all-inclusive aquatic environment and to help create meaningful and memorable experiences for all. I enjoy working to provide exciting and unique aquatics classes and programs for all our youth and those who wish to learn to swim. I train our instructors to understand and teach progressive swim classes.

I graduated from the University of New Hampshire with an undergraduate degree in Sports and Recreation Management, and Lehigh University with an MBA.

I am also a lifelong swimmer, having participated on high school and college swim teams. I come to the Stamford Y with10+ years of aquatic management experience, previously working at the Pelham Country Club and Doral Arrowwood and as the varsity swim coach at the Spence School.

I am certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, American Heart Advanced Life Support Instructor, Red Cross Certified Swim instructor, and Instructor Trainer, trained with the NY State Program – Ability beyond Disability, to teach people with disabilities to swim and to understand water safety.  People learn in different ways. We use all the senses, including visual, verbal, and tactile, and practice the belief that everyone can learn and improve.

My wife and I live in Yonkers NY, and we have 2 daughters, Caroline and Nicole, and a son Stefano. Jeanette is a Yonkers Public school teacher, currently teaching 3rd grade at Yonkers Early Childhood Academy.

I am excited to make a positive impact on all swimmers! I would love to answer any questions you have in regards to our swim program.
